Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a Tummy Tuck, is a type of Cosmetic Surgery that involves operating on the stomach area with the aim of making it thinner and more firm.

The procedure flattens the abdomen by surgically removing excess fat and skin. In cases where muscles have weakened, the procedure may also include the tightening of the abdominal wall.

A Tummy Tuck is generally performed as an inpatient procedure, either under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The incisions are typically at, or just above, the pubic area.

Best Tummy Tuck Candidates

Tummy Tucks are usually performed after pregnancy or extreme weight loss, when the muscles have weakened and excess fat and/or skin is visible. The procedure may be performed in conjunction with Liposuction, where excess fat is removed from adjacent areas.

Liposuction alone can be considered as an alternative where excess skin and weakened muscles are not factors.

Tummy Tuck Results

Initial results will begin to appear within 2 – 4 weeks of the procedure, with final results appearing after approximately 8 weeks.

Flattening and fading of scars continue for one year.

Tummy Tuck Costs

Costs are in the range of R30 000 and include surgeon, anesthetist and clinic fees, as well as follow up appointments for the following 3 months.

Tummy Tuck procedures can be classed as either Mini or Full.

A Mini Tummy Tuck is performed when problems of excess skin and muscle weakness are restricted to the lower abdomen.

A Full Tummy Tuck is done when there is muscle weakness along the full length of the abdomen (from breast bone to pubis), and there is a significant degree of excess skin.
