Which procedures are done in a day hospital?
All procedures that do not require an overnight stay in a hospital can safely be done in a day hospital.
How long after my procedure may I go home?
The normal recovery period is between 2 -3 hours post-operatively. Your doctor and nursing staff will determine when you are fit for discharge.
Should I bring toiletries or pyjamas with me?
No, you don’t need to bring any of these with you. The hospital will provide you with theatre clothes to wear during the operation.
What should I do with my purse, watch, jewellery or other personal items?
Please leave your personal items at home or give them to a family member for safe keeping.
What is a Day Hospital?
Day Hospital is also referred to as Day Clinic: It is an operating theatre facility within a hospital setting which only accommodates surgical day procedures where patients are admitted and discharged on the same day. Patients don’t stay overnight. Worldwide up to 60% of all surgical procedures can be carried out in a day hospital. Day surgery is a more cost-effective option for both patients and medical aids.
